Abstract

1325060 Cigarette tube making machine A KASTNER 2 Oct 1970 [6 Oct 1969] 46914/70 Heading A2C [Also in Division F2] Filter plugs are inserted onto a continuous strip of cigarette paper 16 at spaced distances therealong during its formation into a continuous rod, and the formed rod is severed between filter plugs into double cigarette tube lengths which are subsequently bisected through their filter plugs to form single length paper cigarette filter tubes. The paper strip 16, after the application of a continuous line of adhesive along one of its edges by a disc 30, is fed on an endless flexible belt 2 through a former 24 which it enters at a point 26. Filter plugs are fed, by a reciprocating rod 36, onto the paper strip 16, through an injection tube 28 which projects into the former 24 to a point approximating to where the paper 16 is formed into a circular cross-section. Double length filter plugs are inserted into the injection tube 28 through a slot-shaped aperture 46. Preformed filter plugs may be used or, as shown in Fig. 5, a continuous strip of filter material 50 may be cut along the dotted line 52 to form single strips 50' which are each moved transversely in turn by a plate 54 and then compressed into plugs and inserted into the injection tube 38 through the aperture 46 by a compresser 56. Adhesive for holding the filter plugs within the formed filter tubes is applied, either to the plugs by a nozzle 66 through an opening 68 in the injection tube 28. or to the paper strip 16 by one or more rollers having portions of their peripheries cut away and which are mounted adjacent to the adhesive applying disc 30.
