407,779. Indicating liquid - levels. ELECTRICAL IMPROVEMENTS, Ltd., Carliol House, Newcastle-on-Tyne, and BLACKBURN, C. L., 2, Ryder Street, London. Nov. 14,1932, No. 32147. [Class 123 (i).] A wedge-shaped liquid-level gauge C of the kind described in Specifications 392,642 and 392,882 is illuminated by lamps D<2> covered by two screens F and F<1> of different colours and the gauge is viewed through a mask J, the mask and the screens being arranged at conjugate foci of an optical system formed by lenses G and H. Owing to the different refractive powers of the gauge above and below the liquid level it will appear through the mask to be illuminated by one coloured strip above the liquid level and the other below. The surfaces of the prism in contact with the liquid may be lined with mica. A prism face K may be provided on the lens G to compensate for the increase in the deviation produced when the gauge is viewed from an angle to the horizontal. A transparent plate L with ribs on either side may be provided to reflect or refract the rays for observation at a great angle to the horizontal.
