[Class 97 (i).] In a photographic objective comprising a simple meniscus lens used in conjunction with a diaphragm between it and the image plane, the ratio of the power of the first surface of the lens to the power of the lens is greater than the square of the refractive index of the glass for a wave-length of 3,500 A.U., but does not exceed 3. The refractive index for the sodium line is not less than 1À5. Numerical data are given.
