Abstract
197,538. Trist & Co., Ltd., R., and Bernon, M. May 11, 1922. Gauge glasses.-In a device for illuminating the gauge glasses of liquid level indicators, the illuminant e.g. an electric light j, Fig. 1, is enclosed within a casing l provided with a window f so arranged that the light rays are projected upwards through the indicating liquid contained in the glass a and emerge at the meniscus m which is illuminated, in contrast with the exterior of the gauge glass which is entirely unilluminated. In modifications, the window is replaced or supplemented by a lens or reflector to secure increased local illumination, or an optical element may be employed to enable the source of illumination to be disposed at right-angles to the column of liquid. In other forms the light rays are transmitted from an exterior source of illumination by way of suitable optical elements such as mirrors, prisms and lenses.
