Abstract
407,614. Pneumatic tyres. BRADLEY, C., 313, Grace Street, Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A. Aug. 22, 1933, No. 23351. [Class 144 (ii).] An air-tube has its tread portion, preferably thickened, formed with alternating depressions 14 and raised portions 13, the latter corresponding to the curvature of the inner surface of the outer cover, the angle subtended by the parts 13, 14 as well as the profile of the grooves, in transverse section, being such that on inflation the tread portion of the tube is compressed circumferentially without any substantial change transversely. This result is obtained by having the angle ADB, Fig. 5, approximately equal to two radians so that the length along the depression ACFDB is the same as that of the arc AEB.
