[Class 144 (ii)] A tyre gaiter, or the cross-chain element of a tread band, is formed by metal shoes connected by circular links b, each shoe comprising an outer, grooved, ground-engaging portion a<1> and an inner portion a<3> having a tyre-seating face of convex form in transverse section to permit tilting of the shoes. Preferably, as shown in Fig. 3, the tread-grooves a2 are alternately oppositely inclined.
