Abstract
406,925. Driving aircraft propellers. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., Cranford Lane, Hayes, Middlesex, and FORSYTH, A. G., Venlaw, Burdon Lane, Cheam, Surrey. Aug. 8, 1933, No. 22196. [Class 4.] An airscrew hub a is formed integrally with a shaft b which is telescoped in and connected to a shaft e constituting an independent unit carrying the main reduction gear wheel q, and thrust bearing u with locking nut, the shaft b being removable without dismantling the parts of said unit. The engine crank case is split in a vertical transverse plane to enable the gearing to be inserted from the front. The shaft b is splined to the shaft e and a coned portion c at its front end is drawn against a gun metal washer by a nut k at the rear end of the shaft. The shaft e runs in bearings f, g in addition to the ball-thrust bearing u.
