406,815. Valves; cylinders. NORTH, O. D., 76, Elm Park Mansions, Park Walk, Chelsea, HUGH, P. G., and SCAMMELL LORRIES, Ltd., 52, High Holborn, both in London. Nov. 10, 1932, No. 31775. [Classes (ii) and 7 (vi).] In order to use one-piece valve guides with poppet valves having an enlargement on the end of the stem opposite the valve head, the stem is inserted through the bore of the guide before the enlargement is made on the end. The assembly, comprising the valve 1 with enlargement 5 on the stem 2 and the guide 4, is then inserted as a unit into the hole 6 in the cylinder block. The guide may be secured in position by the engagement of a grooved extension 10 with a forked springy member 11, or by a split collar which may be held in position by the valve spring 15 ; or a nut may be screwed on to the lower end of the guide.
