[Class 139.] In an electric watch wherein the electromagnetic system both drives and regulates the mechanism, the balance comprises a non- magnetic arbor 7 rigid with a magnetic sleeve 8 carrying radial pole-pieces 11, 12, (which may be polarised), coacting with fixed radial poles 4, 5 carried by a sleeve 3 rigid with the framework 1. During clockwise rotation of the balance arbor 7, Fig. 4, a catch 34 thereon wipes idly past a spring 29, secured to a pillar 32, Fig. 3, and carrying a blade 31 normally sprung to abut against a stop 35. During anticlockwise rotation of the balance, the catch 34, Fig. 7, moves both spring 29 and blade 31 to close at 45, 46 the circuit of coil 6, Fig. 1. The contact 45 on the blade 31, Fig. 9, is bevelled to secure a better contact with the block 46, carried by an insulated spring 47 coacting with a stop 48. The circuit is only closed momentarily, the blade 31 swinging back to normal as the catch 34 slips past the - spring 29. The minute hand arbor is driven through worm gearing 26, 27, by a ratchet wheel 18, advanced by a spring pawl 36 carried by blade 31, and held by a spring stop pawl 41 adjustably fixed to pillar 32. In order to mount the minute hand arbor 54, Fig. 12, parallel to that of the driving ratchet 49, worm gearing 50, 51, 53, 54 is included.
