[Class 139] A pendulum clock having its own mechanical or electrical drive, is also controlled by means including an A.C. synchronous motor 1, a first contact 6 operated by the motor, a second contact 12 operated by the pendulum 19, and a coil 10 for re-energizing the pendulum, the circuit of the contacts 6 and 12 and of the coil being closed only when the pendulum is in phase with the impulses from the coil, i.e. at the right-hand end of its path. Contact 6 is rotated by the motor at an appropriate rate and 13 is a rubber buffer. A wheel 4, rigid with insulated disc 2 carrying the contact 6, has a weight 15 so that when current fails in the lighting mains 5 the contact 6 comes to rest away from the spring contact 11, so that the circuit of battery 9 is opened. Instead of battery 9, the circuit may be fed from the mains 5. The circuit for parts 6, 12 and 10 may include contacts 16 which are held closed so long as relay 17 is energized from the mains 5.
