Feb. 24, 1932, No. 5559. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Feb. 26, 1932]. [Class 39 (i).] To obtain a linear focal spot giving sharp focussing, electrons from two or more separate filaments are focussed on to adjacent or overlapping areas of the anticathode. If one filament burns out, the tube may still be used with an elliptical focal spot. One filament may give a larger focal spot than the other for independent use of the filaments. Two filaments 4, 5 in separate focussing cups 6, 7 are supplied with current from a transformer 8 or from separate transformers and give focal areas 11 as shown on the anticathode 2. Shields 9 protect the presses from heat and electrostatic strains. The filaments may be side by side in a single cup. Spiral or helical filaments may be used and the combined focal spot may have a length three times its width.
