Abstract

247,568. Liebermann, M., (trading as Muller, C. H. F. [Firm of]). Feb. 11, 1925. [Convention date]. R÷ntgen-ray tubes.-In a tube having an incandescent cathode, the area of the focal spot is automatically regulated in accordance with the current between the electrodes, by means of a focusing device connected directly to the cathode and of a cathode-ray disperser which is connected to the cathode through a resistance producing a potential difference. In one arrangement, the disperser consists of a rod 15 projecting through the centre of the cathode, which is in the form of a conical spiral attached at one end to the focusing shield 14. A resistance 10 is inserted between the filament-heating transformer circuit and the high-tension supply transformer, to which the disperser 15 is directly connected. In another arrangement the filament is a helix extending along a slot in a trough-shaped focusing device, and the disperser is a wire parallel to the axis of the filament and within the trough. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) mentions the use of a transformer instead of the resistance and also describes a third form in which the filament and focusing shield are similar to those first described, but the disperser is a ring situated between the electrodes and connected directly to the positive side of the high-tension transformer, between which and the anode a resistance is inserted. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
