402,232. Motors ; motor driving arrangements. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO., East Pittsburgh, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Lenehan, B. E. ; 18, Liberty Street, Bloomfield, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Oct. 21, 1932, No. 29458. Convention date, Oct. 21, 1931. [Class 35.] Motors with unwound iron armatures.-In a synchronous motor for clocks &c. of the type having a toothed and unwound rotor the rotor is loosely mounted on the spindle and is connected by a spring to a flywheel which carries the gear for driving the load. The stator 11 consists of a plate with a circular toothed opening to receive the rotor 1 and carrying two sets of L-shaped laminations 8 the other legs of which are enclosed by the winding 7. The portions of the stator on each side of the rotor are connected by parts 9, 10 made narrow so as to hold the two sides in rigid connection without materially interfering with the action of the motor. The rotor 1 is loosely mounted on the fixed pm 14, Fig. 14, and is formed with an extended hub 28 on which is mounted the flywheel 13. A wire spring 18 is fixed to the flywheel at 20 and to a pin 21 on the rotor projecting through a gap in the flywheel. The strength of the spring 18 is such that to produce a torque capable of putting the rotor out of step in normal operation the angular deflection of the spring is about eight times that of the displacement of the rotor necessary to produce this torque, thus ensuring that the period of oscillation of the rotor under the action of the spring shall be considerably greater than that of the rotor about its normal position. The hub 24 of the flywheel 13 is enlarged as shown to enclose washers 25 soaked in lubricant and is closed by a disk 27.
