[Class 103 (vi).] The frame F of a two-axle bogie for railway and tramway vehicles is supported at each side on the axles 23 by means of a semi-elliptic spring 24 which at its free end is linked to the axle-box 22 by an eye 27, at an intermediate point is pivoted on a transverse pin extending between the longitudinal frame members 10, 10a, and at its inner end has a sliding bearing on a shoe 28 of a spring shock-absorber 29 secured to the frame. The axle-box 22 engages vertical guides 21 on the bogie frame and at its lower part is connected to the shock-absorber by a strut 31, which thereby takes the reaction of the spring 24. Each longitudinal member of the bogie frame comprises a shorter outer beam 10a and a longer inner beam 10, the two beams 10 being connected transversely by a four-arm spider 11, at the centre of which is a casing 13 fitted with socket members 14 to receive a ball 12 at the lower end of the pivot pin 9, which in turn is carried by the hub 8 of a four-arm spider 7 connecting the longitudinal members 6 of the body underframe. Mounted on the under side of the members 6 are races 16 coacting with rollers 19 supported between the bogie frame members 10, 10a. Flexible pads 15, 18 of rubber or like material are fitted between the socket members 14 and the races 16 and their respective supports, whereby a certain amount of freedom to oscillate in any direction is given to the body C.
