[Classes 103 (vi) and 108 (ii)] In mounting the underframe of a multi-axle rail or road vehicle or the frame of a bogie the end sets e of a group of wheels are supported on each side by means of double-armed levers c<1>, c' pivoted at fixed points d to the underframe, the inner arms c<2> of the levers being pivotally connected to the one or more plates prings g associated with the one or more intermediate axles, whereby the number of springs necessary on each side is two less than the number of axles. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 a single spring g is employed at each side of a three-axle vehicle or bogie and is connected by links f to the lever arms c<2>, while the ratio of the arms c<1>, c<2> is arranged to distribute the load equally to all the axles. In the four axle vehicle or bogie shown in Fig. 2 the springs g associated with the two intermediate axles are connected by a balance lever j for ensuring an equal load distribution. In order to prevent longitudinal pitching or rocking of the vehicle when mounted on bogies, the body is supported on each bogie by a spherical head disposed at a short distance longitudinally to the rear or front of the bogie centre in combination with a slide or roller surface on the opposite side of the bogie centre. The same result may be attained by omitting the balance link on one side of the bogie illustrated in Fig. 2, or by adding to the arrangement illustrated in Fig. 1, a separate wheel set k associated with springs l as shown in Fig. 3. The levers c<1>, c<2> may be disposed either to the inside or to the outside of the wheels, and, in the case of the steered wheels of road wheels, may be cranked to accommodate the swivelling movements of the wheels. Where more than three sets of intermediate wheels are employed, balance links may be omitted on both sides of the vehicle.
