Nov. 11, 1932, No. 31958. Convention date, Nov. 11, 1931. [Class 35.] Motors, controlling.-The primary member of a single-phase motor has windings disposed at an angle to each other, one of which has two sections substantially equal in effective turns, and the windings are connectable in primary and secondary circuits, one circuit including one of the sections and the angularly displaced primary winding and the other circuit including the other section; in one form, Fig. 1, the section 12 acting as the secondary of a transformer is connected in series with the angularly displaced winding 10 at starting and the other section 11 acting as the primary is connected to the single-phase mains 14 ; in a second form, Fig. 3, in which S and R are the starting and running positions of switches 20, 21, one section 18 acting as the primary of a transformer is connected in series with the angularly displaced winding 19 across the single-phase mains and the other section 17 acting as secondary is shortcircuited in each case, after the motor has started, both sections 11, 12 or 17, 18 are connected in parallel across the mains and the angularly displaced winding is open-circuited. A condenser may be included in the circuit 10, 12 of Fig. 1.
