W. ; 1042, Northwood Boulevard, Fort Wayne, Indiana, both in U.S.A.) Dec. 6, 1933, No. 34329. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1932. [Class 35] [See also Group XXXVII] A motor with a phasesplitting condenser of the type in which the condenser winding is in circuit during running as well as at starting is so arranged that, when the voltage across the main winding is varied to alter the speed, that across the condenser winding is altered in the opposite direction. The Figure shows an arrangement in which the junction of the main and condenser windings 10, 11 is connected by a switch 20 to one of a series of taps on an autotransformer 14, which may be supplied with a high voltage at its terminals from lines 12, or with a lower voltage through a tap and lines 13. In a modification for two voltages only the voltage across the main winding at the higher speed is that across the condenser winding at the lower and conversely.
