Alternating-current motors. - A split-phase motor has a main field-magnet winding 2 and an auxiliary starting winding 3; the primary winding 5 of a variable-ratio transformer 6 is connected in series with the winding 2, and its secondary winding 9 is connected across the winding 3. In applying the invention to a fan motor, the transformer may be located in the hollow base, or in the casing of the motor.
