Abstract
400,810. Ball-and-float valves. ESSEX, G. A., Trafford Park, Penrhyn Bay, Llandudno. Jan. 18, 1933, No. 1711. [Class 135.] A high-pressure float-valve comprises a valve plunger 5 opening with the fluid pressure and a restricted discharge outlet 26a of approximately the same area as the inlet-channel 8 connecting the main 6 with the valve chamber 27, the arrangement being such that the forces holding the valve open are greater than the force required to keep it closed whereby a rapid closing action is obtained. Combined with this arrangement is an air pocket 10 directly connected at 9 to the channel 8 so that vibrations in the fluid are damped out. The valve plunger 5 has a washer 12 which seals the end of the valve chamber in the fully open position. The float lever 22 is carried by a bracket 17 screwed adjustably on the end of the valve chamber so as to vary the operative relation between the float and the valve.
