Abstract

The bodies or pole-pieces, or both, of permanent or electromagnets are made by sintering masses of powdered metal. The compressed powder is heated inductively to a sintering temperature by current in a coil of copper tubing. A suitable composition contains 5-50 per cent of cobalt, 1-20 per cent of tungsten, up to 5 per cent of chromium, up to 15 per cent of molybdenum, 0,5-7 per cent of carbon, and the remainder iron.
