Abstract

399,296. Loud-speakers. ROLA CO., Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Engholm, B. A.; 12065, Edgewater Drive, Lakewood, Ohio, U.S.A.) July 15, 1932, No. 20116. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1931. [Class 40 (iv).] The coil-carrying former of a moving coil loud-speaker is formed by bending a rectangular strip of paper 20, Fig. 2, into the shape of a cylinder, the tab 21 registering with the notch 22. The cylinder is then placed in a mould 25, Fig. 3, having grooves 26, 27 and a plunger 45 having a soft rubber head 46 is forced into the mould so as to produce a rib 31 and bead 30, Fig. 4, in the former the space 32 between which forms a groove in which the coil is wound. The strip 20 is provided with pairs of openings 23, 24 so arranged that the openings 23 are located on the opposite side of the rib 31 to the openings 24, as shown in Fig. 4. In winding the coil, one end of the wire is passed through one set of perforations 23, 24 so as to hold it against movement during the winding operation, the opposite end of the wire being passed through the other set of openings when the winding is completed. The end portion 38 of the former is secured in a metallic ring 35 on the centring spider 16, Fig. 1, together with tabs on the inner end of the core 10 by a metal ring 40, 41, the whole being cemented together.
