[Class 122 (v).] Packing for the driven shaft A of an hydraulic slip coupling comprises L-section packing rings D pressed against the shaft when the coupling is stationary by springs E. When the coupling rotates centrifugal force acts against the spring to ease the packing away from the shaft and so obviates friction. The packing also acts as a relief valve when the pressure in the casing C becomes excessive. The springs may be dispensed with, the packing rings being then made of resilient material.
