Abstract

398,602. Guards for electric rails &c. STUART, J., 26, Skaife Road, Sale Moor, Cheshire. May 18, 1932, No. 14101. [Class 104 (iii).] A guard for a live rail &c. A consists of two strips C1, C2 of steel &c. normally in contact, and adapted to be separated by a sliding collector B and to close behind the latter. The strips are carried by spring supports C which may be covered with a laver of flexible insulating material extending along all the supports to form a lateral guard for the rail. The shank b of the collector is insulated from the strips by rollers b<1> of rubber &c. or by an enclosing sleeve. When applied to a live wire, the strips C<1>, C<2> are supported by circular springs surrounding the wire, and the insulating covering on the spring forms a continuous cylindrical guard for the wire.
