Abstract
397,978. Supporting floor joists. BUCKLEY, J. F., 22, Clare Road, Levenshulme, Manchester. May 20, 1932, No. 14315. [Class 20 (iv).] A member for supporting a floor joist in spaced relation from a concrete, cement, or earth bed is provided with one, two or three legs 3 of non-resilient material which rest unattached on the said bed and grip the latter either frictionally or by slightly impressing themselves thereinto. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the member is provided with three legs 3 formed integrally with a metal casting 1 which is adapted to support the floor joist. The casting 1 may have flanges 2 to engage the joist, and holes 4 whereby the casting may be screwed or nailed to the underside of the joist. Alternatively, two legs may be provided in the positions shown in dotted lines at 5 in Fig. 2. The legs may also be obliquely disposed on a square-shaped casting 8, as shown in Fig. 4, with the legs connected by a web 10. In a further modification, the member may be provided with a single central leg. The member need not necessarily be provided with flanges or with holes for receiving nails or screws.
