Abstract
397,261. Lenses. KAPELLA, Ltd., 104, Stoughton Street, Leicester.-- Warmisham, A. ; 1625, Hinman Avenue, Evanston, Illinois, U.S.A.) May 14, 1932, No. 13941. [Class 97 (i).] In order to provide a photographic lens having greater depth of focus behind the plane of the principal object focused than in front of this plane, the lens is spherically over-corrected in its central zones and is under-corrected in its marginal zones by making one or more of its surfaces aspherical. Preferably the lens is first made with spherical surfaces so as to be spherically over-corrected in all zones, and then the correction in the marginal zones is inverted by removing from the marginal zones of one or more surfaces material increasing in amount regularly from zero towards the edge of the lens. In the lens shown, for which constructional data are given, the surfaces R5, R6 are deformed as above described, commencing at a zone corresponding to an aperture of about F/3-5, the amount of material removed from the edges being about 400 wave-lengths of sodium light.
