Abstract

472,191. Lenses. HASSELKUS, J. W., and RICHMOND, G. A. June 9, 1936, No. 16150. [Class 97 (i)] A wide-angle photographic objective comprises a negative meniscus lens on each side of and adjacent to the diaphragm and three or more positive meniscus lenses disposed about the diaphragm, the concave surfaces of all the lenses being turned towards the diaphragm and the radii of curvature of all the lens surfaces being less than the focal length of the complete objective. The negative lenses have the same or substantially the same power and their refractive index differs from those of the positive lenses by at least 0À05. Data are given for the example shown having three positive menisci and giving a field of view of about 100‹ with an aperture of F/5À6. In this form the power of' the single positive lens in front of the diaphragm is greater than that of either of the two positive lenses behind the diaphragm. The objective may alternatively have four positive lenses, two on each side of the diaphragm, in which case the powers of at least two of the corresponding positive lenses are unequal. Specification 423,156 is referred to.
