Abstract
377,537. Lenses. LEE, H. W. and KAPELLA, Ltd., 104, Stoughton Street, Leicester. Nov. 14, 1931, No. 31561. [Class 97 (i).] In a vide aperture lens corrected for spherical and chromatic aberrations, coma, astigmatism, and distortion, of the type described in Specification 157,040, [Class 97 (i), Optical Systems &c.], comprising two compound meniscus dispersive components with their concave surfaces facing each other, between two collective components having surfaces of different curvatures and having their more strongly curved surfaces turned outwards ; the concave exterior surface of the rear dispersive component has a radius R<6> exceeding 0À3f and the convex exterior surface of this component has a radius R<8> exceeding 0À4f, where f is the focal length of the system. The thickness of each of the dispersive components exceeds 0À14f. The collective elements of the two rear components have refractive indices exceeding 1.62. Preferably the ratio of the radii R<2> and R<1> exceeds 4À5 and that of the radii R<9> and R<10> does not exceed 7. The front collective component is preferably a single element with a refractive index not exceeding 1À61. Numerical data are given.
