Abstract
397,077. Fastenings; hinges. DENELS, R., 605, West 142nd Street, New York, U.S.A. May 4, 1933, No. 12999. [Classes 44 and 65 (ii).] The lid of a cigarette case, vanity box, &c. is fastened by catches released by pressing in a member 14 which fits an aperture in the wall of the case and is flush with the outer surface. As shown, two catches with members 14 are provided at opposite ends of the case to be pressed in simultaneously by gripping the case. The member 14 has a peripheral flange 22 and a lug 16 with a perforation 17 engaged automatically by a shouldered projection 18 with bevelled nose mounted on the lid 11. Member 14 is urged outwards by a spring 21, and has a rib 19 and shoulder 20 which position it flush with the outer surface of the case, shoulder 20 also serving as a fulcrum when the member is pressed inwards. When the catches are released, the lid is preferably opened automatically by a spring hinge 12 of any suitable construction, the form described having a hinge-pin connected at one end to the case body and at the other to the lid so as to be under torsion when the lid is closed.
