[Class 130.] Wrappers are conveyed by suction or other holders 86 mounted on a wheel 85, and applied by the rotation of rollers 42, 43, 82. The bunches are advanced between a belt 8 and an overlying plate 14, the rollers 42, 43 beipg alternately lifted as the bunch is required to pass between and the wrapped cigar beyond them. The band 8 rune in a bed half-cigar shaped in transverse section, the smooth roller 82 providing the complementary halfshape during rolling and wrapping. Each conveyer 86 is mounted rotatably on a hollow pin 88 projecting radially from the shaft 85; its face conforms to the cylindrical shape of the " wheel," and is wrapper-shaped. The sleeve 87 secured rigidly to the holder 86 but rotatably to the pin 88 by a union 92 carries a toothed wheel 94 engaged by a sector 95. Linkwork renders the movements of the sector responsive to the form of a fixed cam-ring 104. As the shaft 85 rotates to bring the end of one of the holders 86 over the roller 82, the engagement of the sector 95 and pinion 94 causes the rear end of the holder to be swung outwardly. A resilient needle 107 acting in conjunction with the notch 106 presses the end of the wrapper against the roller 82. As the wheel 85 rotates the pressed end is slipped between the rollers and wrapping proceeds as the leaf is peeled from the holder 86. The swinging movement of the holder produces the requisite helical winding and tucking of the ends. If the mouth tip of the cigar is similarly shaped to the bunch top shown, the top of the holder is formed with a lug similar to the lug overlaid by the part 109, and during the wrapping of the tip the wheel receives an axial displacement.
