Abstract

396,433. Charge-treating. WOOD, R., Newlands, Garwick, Isle of Man. Dec. 31, 1931, Nos. 36034/31 and 8567/32. [Class 7 (ii).] Heated air, or superheated steam, to which a small quantity of exhaust gases may be added is supplied to the combustible mixture. As shown in Fig. 1, moist air from the radiator passes through a pipe G into a casing M and is drawn by suction through a U-shaped pipe r<1>, r2 into a pipe S leading to the induction pipe. The pipe r<1>, r<2> passes through the exhaust manifold E and is disposed in line with one of the exhaust openings e3, and the pipe may have an opening r<5> through which some exhaust gases may enter.' The casing M may also have an air inlet opening fitted with a nozzle J<1> which drains away any liquid which is deposited in the casing. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the branch m<3> of the casing M is fitted with a nozzle J<2> disposed above the bottom of a corrugated condenser K to prevent liquid trapped therein from entering the pipe r<1>, r<2>. Air or aqueous vapour from the pipe G is admitted to the condenser K through nozzles J<3>, J<4>.
