Abstract
392,695. Thermal switches. SATCHWELL, L., Farnham Road, Slough. March 2, 1932, No. 6295. [Class 38 (v).] A thermostat of the type described in Specification 305,077, [Class 38 (v), Electric switches &c.], in which contacts of large mass are rapidly separated a minimum distance against the attraction of a magnet by a suitable expanding member, is mounted on an elongated base, and has a temperature setting lever, connected with a graduated disc visible through openings in a cover, at one end, and a metal thermometer at the other. As shown, a bimetallic strip 8 carrying a contact 10 engageable with a fixed contact 12a situated between the poles of a magnet 4, is mounted on a rocker 7 pivoted at 7<1>. The strip 8 is urged outwardly by a spring 9, and its temperature of operation is adjusted by a screw 16, carried by the rocker 7, which bears against a fixed adjustable screw 21, and which may be rotated by a finger lever 18 projecting through an opening in the cover 3, Fig. 1. Upturned lugs 24, Fig. 4, of adjustable arcuate plates 23, allow instant. aneous adjustment of the lever 18 to two predetermined positions, and a graduated dial 35 attached to the screw 16, and visible through openings 20 in the cover, indicates the setting. The metal thermometer comprises a coiled metal strip mounted behind the upper part of the cover and terminating in a pointer 29, Fig. 1, which moves over a scale on the outside of the cover.
