Abstract

413,161. Thermostats. COCHRAN, J., 1, Crompton Road, Buxton. Oct. 25, 1933, No. 29535. [Class 64 (ii).] A thermostatic device for controlling the current supply to an electric radiator &c. comprises a metal expansion element, the free end of which moves a pointer over a calibrated temperature dial, said pointer carrying a switch member coacting with an adjustable stationary switch member, the parts being arranged in series with a solenoid controlling a switch in the supply circuit. The expansion element 33 is exposed to the temperature of the room and fixed at one end to an adjustable metal standard 20 and carries at its free end an arm to which is attached a cord 31 wound on the spindle 25 of the movable pointer 24 and connected to a spring 30. The spindle is supported at one end in a metal bracket 26, and the pointer carries a spring finger 14 adapted to coact with the boss 13 of a pointer 12 which can be set at any desired temperature on the dial 8. The boss is connected electrically, through a socket 17 in series with the radiator, with a solenoid in a box 18 which also contains a mercury switch disposed in the radiator circuit. When the finger on the movable pointer contacts with the boss of the pointer 12, the solenoid is energized and opens the radiator switch.
