Abstract

571,331. Thermometers. MILLER, F. Jan. 11, 1944, No. 489. [Class 97 (iii)] In a bi-metallic dial thermometer, the bi-metallic heat-sensitive element is mounted in front of the dial in such a manner that the air in the room &c. is in free contact with it. As shown, the bimetallic element 16 consists of a coil located in front of an annular glass cover 3 and protected by a perforated cover 21 through which the air may circulate. The coil actuates a pointer 20 over a dial 1 and is mounted upon a frame which may be rotated by the manufacturer to set the mechanism to give correct temperature readings on a chart 1. The frame is retained in its adjusted position by friction at its pivotal mounting 9 and by the friction of spring fingers pressing on a dial plate 5.
