Abstract

392,441. Rotary engines. NATTRASS, H., 67, Stanley Street, Auckland, New Zealand. Oct. 21, 1932, No. 29495. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1931. [Class 110 (ii).] A rotary internal-com bustion engine is formec of an annular, circular cylinder 24 through which move four piston: 22 attached to the periphery of a disc 20, four combustion chambers 27 in which a compressed fuel charge is trans - ferred from the front oi a piston to the rear and then fired to propel the piston forwards, and three outwardlysliding abutments to each combustion chamber. The abutment 31 separates fuel inlet and exhaust ports 33, 32. Abutment 30 is closed until the piston 22 approaches it closely, so that the fuel gas is compressed, and abutment 29 is kept closed until the transfer of fuel from the front to the rear of a piston is accomplished. The abutments are cam operated by push rods and rocking levers, off the shaft 21. Fuel is supplied to inlet ports 33 by means of a manifold. The pistons are provided with rings, and packing rings bear on each face of the piston disc 20, just inside the cylinder 24.
