Abstract

377,380. Rotary engines. CIMINO, G., 12 int., Via Degli Asili, Leghorn, Italy. June 15, 1931, No. 17358. [Class 110 (ii).] A four-cylinder rotary internal-combustion engine has four circular working chambers formed by semicircular grooves in the stator 1 and rotor 5 and one piston 7 in each working chamber ; the pistons are spaced at 90‹ to one another. Sliding abutments 9 are actuated by cams 23 on a shaft 15 which is rotated by a chain 17 and sprockets 16, 19 from the main shaft 18. Packing grooves 4 contain spring rings. Working fluid is distributed by a rotary valve 25 having ports 30 which cooperate with inlets 27 on a flange 28 bolted to the stator. The inlets 27 feed through passages 10 to the working chambers when the abutments are at the bottom of their strokes. The valve 25 is driven off the shaft 18 by sprockets 32, 34, and a chain 33. A reciprocating compressor having two opposed cylinders with pistons driven by a crank on the shaft 18 supplies compressed fuel from a carburetter or compressed air to a carburetter. Sparking plugs 35 are placed at 60‹ to vertical and exhaust ports 36 180‹ behind the plugs. The Provisional Specification states that the rotary valve may be replaced by poppet valves, and the engine may be in separate units of one working chamber. More than one piston and one abutment may be provided to each chamber.
