Abstract

Liquids are evaporated or degasified by drawing the liquid from a tank 20 up through a pipe 4 into an evacuated vessel 1 so that the liquid passes through a heater element 7 and then impinges on a baffle 9, finally falling downwardly over perforated plates 8. The vapour and gases evolved are drawn through a pipe 3 and air condenser 10 by a pump 21. Residual liquid passes in heat exchange with the cold liquid through a vessel 19 and is pumped by a <PICT:0392044/III/1> pump 16 to a receiver 22, the action of the pump being increased by recirculating part of the liquid through an injector 17. Liquid level in the vessel 1 is maintained constant by a float 6 actuating a clack valve 5.
