Abstract
<PICT:0344328/III/1> In a combined spray and ejector condenser, the vapours entering by a pipe 3 are brought into contact with a baffle 4 cooled by a ring spray 5 supplied with water from a cooling coil 6. Spray condensate collecting at the base of the chamber 1 are ejected through a drain 12 with the aid of a water jet 9. The reduced pressure in the chamber 1 is used to draw water from a tank 2, upon which the condenser is mounted, by a pipe 7 to the coil 6. A cooling coil 14 may be evacuated by connecting through a pipe 16 and a cock 18 to the chamber 1; the evacuated coil may then be filled with ammonia or other refrigerant to enhance the condensing action.
