Abstract

391,367. Stuffing-box packing. HUHN, G., 23, Levetzowstrasse, Berlin. Oct. 6, 1932, No. 27822. Convention date, March 30. [Class 122 (v).] Carbon or graphite packing rings 3, having bevelled outer surfaces, are pressed axially into contact with that side of the packing chamber against which they are also pressed by the motive fluid, by a thin metal ring 5 contracted by a circumferential spring 16. An annular projection 7 on the inner face of the ring 5 engages a groove in the packing ring to facilitate assembling the packing. Alternatively a series of projections on the ring 5 may engage corresponding depressions in the packing. A stop 22 prevents rotation of the packing. The spring may comprise an inelastic wire 16 fixed at 21 to the ring 5 and adjustably connected at its opposite end 17 to the free end of a wave spring 12 secured at 13 to the ring 5.
