389,370. Electrically-actuated valves. NATIONAL PNEUMATIC CO., 420, Lexing- ton Avenue, New York, U.S.A. Aug. 8, 1932, No. 22215. Convention date, April 9. [Class 135.] In an electromagnetic valve which may be used to control a differential fluid-pressure engine, such as a door engine, without additional valves or other apparatus, and of the kind comprising an L-shaped yoke of hardened magnetic steel ending in a polepiece 2, a pivoted armature 7 of similar material, and a wound soft-iron core member 3 having a central hole in which a rod 10 is movable for operating the valve, the core-winding is in two parts 4, 5. One, 4, of these is momentarily energized to attract the armature 7, which remains in engagement with the polepiece 2 until their residual magnetism is neutralized by momentarily energizing the other winding 5. A spring 18 then moves the armature away from the polepiece. The windings have independent switch keys 23, 28 and may be superposed. The armature 7, which is pivoted on a non-magnetic standard 6, acts on the valve-rod 10 through a blade spring 9. The rod 10 carries at its lower end two conical valves 19, 20. In the lower position, the valve 19 is closed and 20 is opened to put a pressure-port 17 into communication with an engine-port 16. In the upper position, valve 20 closes and 19 opens to connect the engine-port with the atmosphere through ports 15.
