Abstract

Iron ores, iron scrap, or other ferruginous materials are treated with chlorine at such temperatures and pressures that the ferric chloride formed is in a molten condition and iron then recovered from the molten product by chemical methods, for instance by reduction with hydrogen.ALSO:Iron is recovered from molten ferric chloride by chemical means, for instance by reduction with hydrogen. The ferric chloride may be obtained by treating iron ores, scrap, or other ferruginous materials with chlorine at such temperatures and pressures that the chloride formed is in the molten condition.
