Abstract

290,568. Vereinigte Stahlwerke Akt.- Ges. May 14, 1927, [Convention date]. Iron, manganese, and other metallic chlorides. -Iron, manganese, and other chlorides volatilized during the chlorination of ores are freed from hydrochloric acid and water prior to being treated for the production of the metals by passing the vapour or gas of the chloride, preferably at a temperature near that of its volatilization, through magnesium or other similar oxide. The magnesium oxide required may be obtained by using magnesium chloride in the chlorination step. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes also the following subject-ma,tter: The chloride may be solidified by cooling to temperatures at which the hydrochloric acid and water still remain in the gaseous state. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
