Abstract

387,280. Screw propellers. ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH AIRCRAFT, Ltd., SIR W. G., WYLIE, H. N., and CRABBE, P. G., Whitley, near Coventry. Sept. 16, 1932, No. 25789. Addition to 380,812. [Class 114.] The screw propeller according to parent Specification is modified in that the flange 5 is gripped only on its external periphery and the outer face is in contact with the overhanging part 10 of the hub socket. In a further modification, the flange is not gripped but the blade root in the immediate vicinity thereof is subjected to the distorting force. To enhance the effect the root 3 is provided with a groove 11 having a conical shoulder 13 which is engaged by a similar coned face 12 on the socket shoulder 10, the latter being forced between the conical shoulder 13 and the outer face 5 of the flange 4.
