[Class 114.] A variable - pitch propeller has blades 3 which screw outwards by the action of centrifugal force to increase the pitch against the action of a spring 12. On slowing down the engine the spring decreases the pitch and if the sleeve 19 is moved to disengage the stops 20 the propeller will move into a negative pitch position. The sleeve 19 may be moved by hand or by a feeler 25 engaging the ground if fitted in aircraft. This feeler also temporarily closes the throttle 34.
