[Class 100 (iii).] Cleaning spacers. - The spacebands in an assembled line of matrices are cleaned by giving them a short vertical movement, so that their side faces are rubbed against those of the adjacent matrices. Any deposit formed by the molten metal on those parts of the spacebands that are left exposed by the routing-notches of the matrices is thereby removed. The grooves c<3> in the transporter, which accommodate the lugs of the spacebands, are made of approximately double the normal width, so that each spaceband is caused to move upwards as a whole by the rise of the justification-bar F. The upper walls of the grooves are formed with inclined parts at the discharge end to restore the spacebands to normal position as they leave the transporter.
