Abstract

384,900. Two-part couplings. WILKINS, G. R., 907, Victoria Street, Hastings, New Zealand. May 9, 1932, No. 13323. [Class 38 (i).] A terminal clamp for a storage battery having tapering post terminals comprises a body portion 1 having an orifice 4 with a correspondingly tapered internal face 5, and a clamping piece 2, which is pivotally and detachably mounted on the body 1 by the engagement of lugs 9 on the clamping piece with bearings 10 on the body, the clamping piece being pressed into gripping engagement with the battery post by means of a set screw 3 passing through a projecting boss 7 on the body 1. Preferably the lower and inner part 12 of the clamping-piece and the tapering face 5 are serrated to furnish a better grip on the post, while a socket 13 into which a cable may be sweated, is formed integrally with and on one side of the body 1. To prevent accidental detachment and loss of the clamping piece the upper edges of the bearings 10 may be burred over to form a retaining means.
