384,658. Change speed gearing ; clutches. HENRIOD, C. E., Areuse, Neuchatel, Switzerland. June 8, 1931, No. 16715. Convention date, June 6, 1930. [Class 80 (ii).] Change-speed. gearing comprises in combination a driving flywheel 8, Fig. 1, a main clutch 9 and at least one two-speed epicyclic eccentric train. The arrangement shown comprises two such trains A, B and a reversing train C operated by cams 55, 56, 57 on a control shaft 54 which carries a fourth cam 60 for operating the main clutch 9. The train A comprises an internally and externally toothed ring 15, Fig. 2, meshing with a pinion 11 fast on the clutch shaft 6 and with ari internally toothed drum 16 connected by a disc to a driving pinion 18 of train B. The ring 15 turns loose on an eccentric 14 loose about the shaft 6 and rigid with a disc with peripheral clutch teeth 13. The train A is operative to reduce speed when the teeth 13 are engaged by a dog 47 on a control lever 43 of the train. The train A turns solid when a clutch ring 36 splined on the drum 16 is engaged with the teeth 13. The train B is similar; its driven drum 25 being rigid with a driving pinion 27 of train C. Train C comprises planets 28 which mesh with the pinion 27 and with teeth on a drum 33 rigid with a driven coupling flange 35. The planets 28 are carried by a disc which is clutched to the drum 33 or stopped to effect forward and reversed driving. Reversal may be on each of the four forward speeds of the trains A, B. These speeds are a solid drive, a reduced speed on each of the trains, and a double reduction. The main clutch 9 is a lockable epicyclic train comprising planets 66 carried by a disc 68 fast on the clutch shaft 6 and meshing with an internal ring 65 on the flywheel 8 and with a loose sun gear 71. This central toothed gear 71 is split into radial segments held together on a double 'cone 73 which is moved to the right to engage the clutch 9. The engagement is effected by the pinion segments expanding unevenly so as to jam the train and lock it solid.
