Abstract
The copper salt of nitrotetrazole is prepared by the action of nitrous acid on diazotetrazole in the presence of copper or copper salts, for example by allowing a solution of aminotetrazole and concentrated sulphuric acid to flow into a solution of sodium nitrite and copper sulphate, after which a further amount of sulphuric acid is added. The precipitated copper salt is washed with sulphuric acid, then with water, and is treated in aqueous suspension with hydrogen sulphide to liberate the nitrotetrazole. The sodium salt is prepared from the copper salt by treatment with caustic soda; and the heavy metal salts, in particular the silver, mercury, and basic lead salts, are prepared from the sodium salt by treatment with the heavy metal nitrate, hydroxide, or oxide.
