Abstract

An aqueous solution of thioglycollic acid is treated successively with an aqueous solution of a silver salt and one of caustic soda; or the silver solution, for example silver nitrate or fluoride, may be added to the thioglycollic acid dissolved in caustic soda. By addition of alcohol, silver thioglycollate of sodium, AgS.CH2.COONa, is precipitated as a yellow powder, which is soluble in water and is of value in treating gonococci diseases.
