Abstract

Sugar solutions are purified by filtering them through zeolites or like compounds which substitute alkaline earths for the alkalies of the solutions and then through a further quantity of similar compounds which are stated to remove the dissolved alkaline earths and other impurities by absorption. Suitable compounds can be prepared by precipitating dilute solutions of salts of aluminium, iron, or alkaline earths by means of waterglass and treating the dried precipitate with a solution of the chloride of the appropriate alkaline earth metal. A process of thus treating iron sulphate is described.
