Abstract
384,396. Mixing and treating charge. DICKINSON, W., Rock House, Slant Gate, Kirkburton, near Huddersfield. Oct. 15, 1931, No. 28602. [Class 7 (ii).] Extra air to a road vehicle engine is supplied through a passage E in which is located a valve G controlled by the driver. The air enters an annulus D and escapes into the induction pipe through perforations f in a ring e and is mixed with the charge therein by two pairs of blades g formed integral with the ring. The air may be dry or humidified, and to control the humidity of the air a barrel P is fitted on a part 0 carried by an extension F of the fitting A. A cylindrical rod Q has a rectangular opening V which communicates with the atmosphere through a port U, covered by a wire gauze filter a, and an opening W which communicates through a pipe T with the radiator of the water cooling system. By rotating the rod Q by a lever near the driver, atmospheric air or humidified air, or both, can be supplied to the induction pipe. To ensure that moist air is supplied and not water, the radiator overflow pipe t leads to a three-way connection u, the water escaping by opening a flap v whilst the moist air is drawn through the pipe T.
